MaxID Corp Announces Sale of Handheld TWIC Readers/Software to Gloucester Police Department

Pleasanton, California ‐‐ June 22, 2010 ‐‐ MaxID, a leading provider of identity solutions, today announced the sale of iDL500 Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) accredited handheld biometric reader devices to the Gloucester Massachusetts Police Department.

“We are excited about advancing the tools and technology for our officers in the field,” said Lt. Joe Aiello of the Gloucester Police Department. “The MaxID/CoreStreet combination provides a very powerful, yet portable way of verifying an individual's identity, using driver’s licenses, passports or TWIC/PIV credentials as well as Seafarer ID cards.”

The iDL500 units delivered to the Gloucester Police Department are bundled with ActivIdentity’s CoreStreet PIVMAN client software, which provides a TWIC-compatible solution that has been in operational use for more than three years in the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), various states and is on the FIPS 201 Approved Products List and the TWIC Initial Capabilities Evaluation (ICE) List.

“The maritime and law enforcement markets are increasingly turning to identity verification and validation tools to address the need to verify the identity of government employees and meet TWIC enforcement requirements," said Brian Skiba, president, MaxID Corp U.S. "When combined with the iDL500, the PIVMAN software resonates well with law enforcement agencies who want to equip their personnel with a very powerful, wireless handheld biometric device to support their field operations. The CoreStreet/MaxID combined solution is gaining significant traction in these markets."

The solution augments day to day law enforcement operations, adding an additional layer of security when they need to check an individual’s credentials.

“The PIVMAN Solution provides law enforcement with the ability to read and verify an individual’s identity," said John Bys, regional vice president, ActivIdentity. "It’s typically used by Federal and State agencies to verify the identity of public workers and to quickly determine training and skill sets in emergency operations. Gloucester Law Enforcement officers will now be able to verify and authenticate highly trusted identity credentials such as PIV, CAC, FRAC, Seafarer ID and TWIC cards on a single device even in communications-out situations.”

“When users need to read TWIC, SID, CAC, PIV, PIV-I, FRAC cards, passports or driver's licenses or use the other on-board biometric functions to verify identity, the iDL500 does it all in a light, compact, easy-to-use form factor,” Skiba adds.

The iDL500 is built in the United States.
